3D sketched spline

SW

New member
I seem to remember reading somewhere that you could create sketch a 3D spline within sketcher by inserting a sketched coordinate system then using this as the dimension reference for the spline. I've just tried this but it doesn't work and I can't remember where I read this.

Can anybody help?

Hey Sam, could you possibly be thinking of (dare i mention these words here) Solid Works. Its been a few years since I used it but there was a 3d spline feature on it them. Skint is right though, unless something exist in ISDX that I'm not aware of then your looking at the intersect feature where you sketch on planes and intersect the the sketches to give you a 3d curve.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just found the where I read about this in the first place - a PTC TPI at https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=110502.

In short, you can create a 3D spline by setting the origin of a sketched spline to a local sketched coordinate system then modifying the point coordinates. However, this only works for a sweep trajectory from the Insert - Sweep menu. On any other feature when you try and modify the spline points you only get X and Y coordinates.

If anyone finds any other feature where you can do this, please let me know.

You could use a datum curveand points were you create a curveto go through some 3D data points as a spline. You could also create a 3D datum curve by an equation.

ISDX you can also create 3D splines. There are 3 types of curves you can create in ISDX, Planar, COS(curve on surface), and free. The free type would allow you to push and pull points anywhere 3 dimensionally.

There are many ways you could do what you want.
