Add external references to a Family Table

I searched proe help for this but they have directly shown table snap having external refernec selected in one of the column,but what I need is how to create a family table in part which has external references.
I tried creting as -
Created simple block
then Tools -> family table
Add table column
Here I know that I need to check "ref model" filter.
But it is disabled.
Can anybody spend some time & give me detailed procedure to create family table having external reference & use same part in assembly.
I am working on WF 5.0

I think this needs to be done in an assembly file.

I tried in assembly mode as well,but still "ref model" feature remains disable.I couldn't add external reference in assembly mode also.
I would be better if I get some initial steps to be followed to reach to that stage.

Not sure but maybe check under, >tools >assembly settings >refrence control to


make sure your settings are set to >all.


Seems like there is a setting thats not allowing you to have external selections.
