Adding a weld in Sheetmetal Mode

Bugzuki

New member
We were working on the following model in one of Bart's classes. One of the Solidworks guys asked the question of how to add a weld to the Sheetmetal part while in Sheetmetal mode (I guess you can do that in Solidworks).

Does anyone know the answer? Just to clarify we were trying to add the weld to the seam were the two ends of the sheetmetal come back together.

Not possible that I know of; only possible in assemblies with the Weld application turned on. The only workaround I can think of is tocreate a surface to emulate a weld feature and then use Annotations to drop in the weld symbol.

To use the welding options create an assembly model with the part and then you can add the weld.

showed the edges like in Soilidworks so those solidworks guys did'nt get too confused. What are the steps to create the weld functions in an assembly?

Applications>Welding puts you in Weld mode, again, it can only be seen while in an assembly.

Insert>Weld brings you into this dialog box:

Select your weld and your references, among many other options.

wow....Cool...The solidworks guy in the class got humbled all through the class until the last exercise then I got humbled. Ouch. How do you suppose mechanica would handle that orange weld stripe?Does it follow the edge of the part sorta like a round on a part?
