An out side thread

Hi, I know how to make a spring using a helical sweep but when I apply the same poceedure for making a thread I get stuck when I enter the sketcher and Pro E asks me TO SELECT a perpendicular surface, an edge, or vertex relative to which the section will be dimensioned and constrained. What does this mean?

This is the standard request from Pro/E when it's asking for a reference. Youshouldselectreferences (usually at least two) before you sketch the sweep profile. After sketching the profile and continuing, you then sketch the thread section.

Thanks for your help with this. I got it. I am in school for CAD. This semester is Pro-E. I stand on very solid ground using Solidworks but I am like a fish out of water using Pro-E

I went from Solidworks to Pro E also. You're background in Solidworks will help you learn Pro E much quicker. I know it did for me.

Another question? What is the simplest way to perform a loft with a circular bottom and a square top? The shape that I can make has a twist in it, like the quadrants are not lined up correctly. I use WF 2.0 at work & WF 3.0 at school. Is there a difference in proceedure?

cad fool,

You need to verify that your start points are in the correct position. Each section has a start point and if they are in different locations it will twist.

How is that I would adjust start points? I can get the arrows in the same quadrant but the arrows are ponting in different directions.

If you select your point that you want select RMB select start point. If it is the wrong direction select the same point again RMB and select startpoint again. This will flip the direction.

Hey, I figured it out. Although I kind of outfoxed it. I rotated the top section -90 degrees and it took the twist out. I could not do it the way you suggested but I did it. Thanks for your help. If you have any Solidworks questions, please ask. I am no extpert but I am realy good. If you go to fotothing.com/blara you can view some of my work.
