Analysis Measurement Distance in WF3

Canners

New member
Hi,

I have just been upgraded to WF3, on the whole there are alot of improvements but I am struggling to find how to do a simple surface to surface measurement which was quite easy in WF2....

You go to the pull down, Analysis>measurement (Distance)then in WF2 you could select "Surface" for both points references then you would get a true horizontal dimension of the distance between two surfaces.

When using the tool in WF3 I cannot find a way to select the surface in the same way to achieve the same result. It will give you a distance between a point on each surface not a true (X or Y) surface to surface dimension. more the length of an angled line accross points on each surface, which is not what i want

(See uploaded file measure.jpg)

Anyone got any tips for achieving this......

Its OK I have cracked it :) When you select the surface required to measure from and to there is a check box "Use as plane" check this and you get the desired output.

hi

yes you cracked it, it fooled me for a few minutes the first time. I feel that it would have been more useful if the measurement appeared as a result in the box were you selet the entities, not on the model in some obscure position, what do you think?

Yes, the obscure positioning of the dimension on the model is misleading, It would be useful to have the result in the same window that the references are selected. Instead you have to go back to the Analysis tab to see the result !
