Applying detailed surface architecture

Dear Forum,

I am an intermediate user of solidworks 2007 student version. I wish to apply a detailed surface architecture to the surfacea large 3D curvedsolid. Is there a way to generate the architecture on a 'token' area and then apply or wrap the larger solid with this architecture surface. To date i ahve been attempting this but am unsuccessful, Igenerated the token architecture (from multiple 3d extrudes, extrude cuts etc) and generated a "knitted surface" from the surface of the token, and then used the "Face" -> "replace" option, to replacea face on the larger 3d model withthe defined architectureknitted surface, however i keep getting the error:

"Rebuild Errors: The feature could not be created because it would produce self intersecting geometry"

Is there another way to do this??? or is there anything that i am likely doing wrong?

Kind regards, and well done on a fantastic SW user forum.

in order to replace the surface solidworks has too fill non verticle geometry or geometry that is past perpindicular with the surface it is replacing it cant do the calculations. Try something not so complicated and build from there.

I have tried to replace some prety radical geometry and this is what I have found...
