Assembling Gears

dept664

New member
Morning, all,

I have an assembly of several spur gears. The way I've been putting them together is with planes and axis, like this:

1) Make a plane thru the axis of gear #1 at whatever angle is appropriate for gear #2.

2) Make another plane thru the axis of gear #1 that is normal to the first plane.

3) Make an offset plane from the normal plane that is the proper pitch diameter to place gear #2.

4) Make an axis using the first planeand the offset plane.

5) Place gear #2 on the axis.

As you can imagine, after 20 gears this is a planar nightmare. Does anyone have a better way?

Why not create skeleton model. In it you can create curves that will represent your gearbox, and put in essential dimensions etc.
Then you can using sketch point, create axis points for your gears (in sketch you can easily create all you need to get proper position of gear axis). Then trough this points create axis for gears.

Hope it helps
