assembly constraint auto selected ?

zeta

New member
When I assembly bolts (or nuts), I will select the screw assembly
surfcae then object surface. Following is the bolts axis then hole
axis. Can I set the assembly constraints like? the first constraint:
the screw assembly surface to be selected as default, the second
constraint is the bolt axis selected as default. So everytime when I
can insert screw, I only select the object surface then hole axis.
Becasue in most case, I have to insert various type of screws but few
repeated.

I don't think you can set some default constraints.

What I would suggest you do is notto select any constraints fromthe drop down menu.

Just click on the surfaces you want to be mate, and for the axis you can replace that constraint with insert constraint (same thing). And for insert again, just click on the revolved surface of the screw and then click on the revolved surface of the hole. This way the constraints will be automatically set. You don't have to select the constraints from the drop down menu.

Its possible andis called Interface.
The constraints for a part can be pre-defined, eg. Insert and Mate surfaces for a fastener.

Open the setup menu in the part and pick Comp Interface.

That's nice, I didn't know that. Now I have to change all my screws to have an interface

. Thanks.

vlad,

you can place interfaces on more than just the screws. You can place it on the mounting features where the screw goes as well. In that way you can make it simpler to place any component since the assembly constraints can be already anticipated for both parts.

cheers,

M

It's strange that you don't have it:

But you can try like Wsylvester suggested: first place the component in assembly with the constraints and then click on the third icon and select to add the interface to the part. And it will be added to the part. Next time you add the part will see a window with the interface selection.

I actually justset the interface in all screws at part level, but I see now it works the other way around too.

I'm not setting interfaces, just yet,in the parts that the screws are mounted to, because many of them have c'bores for different type of screws and that will require to set more then one interface in a part and it takes some time. But I'm still testing this and who knows, finally I may set interfaces in parts too.

But for screws, washers, nuts, fittings , hardware in general I will definately set interfaces. Until now it seams like a good thing to do. Will see in time.

Zeta,

If you do not have the AAX advanced assembly extension then you may not have the capability to set this component interface? Also check to see if you have set this config option:

enable_component_interface ( i think this is a beta version config option)

you might also want to add:

autoplace_single_comp
create_temp_interfaces

Vlad,

Even if you set some of the interfaces it reduces the effort and you can do the final positioning for those aspects that are unique to the part as you described. You can also set rules for the interface to accomodate specific parts. You can actually drag and drop a component in some cases.

cheers,

M

Finally I found it for ProE WF3.0, the component interface is re-arranaged:

Insert->Model Datum->Component Interface

Now I can create the interface too for all screws, nuts, clip...
