Assign a Datum w/o showing in Model Ass’y

Does anyone know how to assign Datums for GD&T to show up in drawings but not in the model assembly? I know how to hide it in the assembly but everytime I reopen the assembly I have to rehide them and this can be time consuming. If I save theindividual models with the datums hidden, then the datums are left off the drawing.....which is not good when someone else prints out the drawings and doesn't know the datums are missing.

Thanks,

Robb

There are a few thing you will need to do.

Assuming you are using WF2, create a layer that has a rule associated
to it to grab all the gtol (the rule will have to be searching for
specific names not types of features) and place it on a layer.
This layer can then be hiden and save the status. Now the Gtol
will not show in the parts.

TO CREATE A RULE BASED LAYER

1. create a new layer

2. go to the rules tab

3. on the rules tab hit the options drop down, select independent

4. create your rule or rules

5. on the rules tab hit the options drop down, select associative

6. hit okay on the layer dialog box.

Second...on your drawing make sure you are not propagating the layer
status from the model, this way your gtol will show up in the drawings.

Thanks for your help Allen. But pardon my ignorance...What should the rule look like? I've never used rules before.

Thanks,

Robb

Simply choose the datums you want to hide while defining a new layer if rules doesn't work. You can hide and unhide the layers at will in the model or have your drawing automatically set to unhide the layer.
