Better way to CG extrude with BMX?

I am working on a tutorial for my engineering students for a variable section extrusion centered on the sectional mass center. I have one method outlined in the attached tutoral but it seems to me to be quite awkward. Please look it over and tell me if you can think of a better way, Thanks.
