BOM, Sorting

Hello,

I have defined a BOM format file to get a BOM file. The file is imported into an Excel worksheet. All the steps were successfully performed and I have a worksheet with data from the model tree. I want to ask you ifareare thereany possibility to set the order in which the BOM file is generated, other than the hierarchy in model tree. My colleagues in Logistic Department asked me the bom file to look similar to the table on the assembly drawings. The tables on drawings are sorted ascending using the part/assembly name. The <drive>:\Proe 2001\html\usascii\proe\master.htm file don't give me more information on BOM sorting.

Thank you in advance.

Hello Liviu,

I am using repeat region to show the components on the drawings, I thought to use a report to have the table content saved in a file, BUT!, the saved file is really a mess!!!, for a small assembly which I used for testing purposes- only 53 components, parts and sub-assemblies, the table content file is 1MB, it is filled with spaces, I tried to open with notepad to see what's in it, I was horrified:), I have opened it inexcel, then I exported the xls file into WORD(strange, isn't it), I have removed the un necessary spaces and blank rows, but excel made a bad thing, it splited the name of the parts in 2 or 3 columns if that names were containing spaces, the same thing happened with column that contain information about the size of the part. It sounds like an adventure of Indiana Jones

I was thinking deeply to my problem and I realize that it's no use to make database file for each sub-assembly with BOM. The using of BOM isn't the best way because you see, you can have the same sub-assembly taken into different assemblies, I think it's better to have the structure of each sub-assembly in one database , sort of relational database, I think sql or even dBASE type of file with index on component number (part component number), but this is available only after importing the report into database.

Hi Adrian,

Try this one:in drawing mode click on Table, Save/Retrieve, Store Text then click on your repeat region table, enter the name of file(BOM1234)and save it.Open excel and openthe file you have just saved (BOM1234).You should not have any problems.I did this many times.

Thank you Liviu for your reply. I have to tell you that I have already took that way and I've got a very large text file after store text in report menu. For now I have stopped this task, it wasn't a job duty, I wanted to help my colleagues in Logistic Dept to avoidmanual entering of data into database.

Regards,

Adrian

Hello adriansima,

I use this solution in my job.

You can use a repeat region in a table, with the parameters rpt.index and rpt.level.

With this info you can reproduct the hierarchy model in Excel.

Hoping it's good for you,

Albert

I want to thank you both, Liviu and AlbertHE for your help and I wish you all Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!
