Can Proe Layer a Solid Feature?

Is there any way to layer solid features? e.g. I am using a portion of an extrusion or something to create a datum curve with. Can I build the extrusion in one layer, build the datum curve in another, then turn off the extrusion layer so that only the curve is showing? I've never worked with layers before. Is what i'm asking only possible to do by hiding the feature (i.e. extrusion in this case)?

Thanks,

Aaron

You can put solid geometry (the solid body / bodies) on a layer and Hide the layer...

Layer Properties, move the cursor over a solid body to pre-select highlight, RMB, Pick from List, select SolidGeom. There are other ways to go about it but that's the simple answer. Don't think you can hide individual solid faces.

I must be doing something wrong. I created a new layer>layer properties>selected the solid body (it then appeared in the contents part of the Layer Props window)>clicked ok in Layer Props window. Then I RMB on the new layer>selected "Hide" but the solid body was not hidden, nothing changed.

I also tried adding the solid body to an existing default layer (e.g. 01_prt_all_dtm_pln) then hiding that, but got the same results: the datum planes were hidden, but not the solid body. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Aaron

P.S. The solid body I tried to hide in the new layer was an extruded part. I'm not sure if that makes any difference. I'd like to be able to put extruded surfaces in a layer and hide them, as well.

Hiding and showing layers do not affect model geometry,
because these functions only affect features that do not affect mass properties,
such as datum planes, axes, and coordinate systems.

In other words, you can not use layers to hide solid geometry.

Solids can be put on layers and hidden. I have a rule set up that automatically puts all solids on layer All_Solids. If I hide it, solids are not visible.

The last time I tried to manually add a solid to a layer, I could not get it to work though.

Better way to hide solid geometry is to create simplified representations, by View Manager, Simp Rep.
This way you can control what part of geometry would be hidden (excluded), and mass property is updating correctly for various simp rep of model/asm.

Although this simp rep in part you cannot use for drawing creation, only simp rep of asm you can use in drawing creation.

Why do you want to do this with layers? If it is just the one extrusion, as it sounds, just right click on the feature in the modle tree and hide it.

Solid geometry can either all be shown or all be turned off in ProE through the layers and choosing "SolidGeom" as described above. Individual features cannot be hidden unless.....

Build the feature as a surface instead of a solid. Almost all Extrusions canbe made this way in ProE now. You can than hide the original quilt in a layer and move on with your business!
