can't trim floating surfaces

I need help figuring out how to remove the floating surfaces from this quilt?

I copied surfaces into this part from another solid and now I want to solidify the quilt to get the volume. The problem is, I can't seem to remove these floating pieces without removing other parts of the surface that I need.

Nevermind,

I figured out that I should have excluded these surfaces during the copy.
