Chain and Sprocket

Does anyone know some efficient way of modeling a chain and sprocket system (like a bike pedal - chain - drive system). If the drive sprocket and follower work (turn relative to each other at the correct rates) that would be fine.


Using a gear pair the parts run in opposite directions (as expected) and we can get it to work with an "intermediary" gear with a 1:1 ratio but this seems like a work around and not a direct solution.


Let me know if you have any info.
 
A less efficient way would be to model each contact with cams that allow lift-off. You probably have the most efficient way possible. I do recall, however that with Wildfire 3.0 there should be a way to define any two axes as a gear pair. I have not tried it though.
 
WF 3 (and I believe WF2) lets you change the direction of rotation for gear 2. Just click the flip direction button in the "Motion Axis" box on the tab for the 2nd gear definition and you'll get it to turn the other way.
