challenge from a newbie

So, here it is:

The challenge is to create an accurate representation of the rotor's geometry. I'm a student right now, and started this model as a challenge for myself about a year ago. It took me a bit of research into how the geometry works, but was very interesting. I'm hoping that a few others might find this as interesting of a project!!

What kind of this rotor? for what function or purpose u want to use it? give the complete details.

By seeing this pic, there is no challenge seen in this without drawings. If u can provide drawings than it should be a challenge for functional geometry. I did not saw this, I am not related to automobile in any manners except some plastic parts.
 
I love the small challenges on this forum, when I get chance to have a go at them that is !!


Im not sure if I understand this one correctly though, do you just want to us to try and copy that shape ? I think even I - the pro-e noob - hehe would have a decent chance of doing that

set up your parts using mechanism connections and create a motion envelope - then do an offset and cut! done!

Oh I see what we are supposed to achieve now. Not sure I will have time for this challenge, I have never even attempted anything to do with motion on pro-e yet

so would be a big learning curve for me. There is so much to pro-e that I havent even touched yet, oh when s this pain of learning going to stop

You should be able to write an equation for the shape of the housing. It is called an epitrochoid and is formed by taking a point along the radius of a small circle and rolling the small circle around the circumference of a 3 times larger circle. How far out along the radius (the excentricity) of the small circle you go controls the "stroke" of the crankshaft excentric.

Miko - it's great that you have come so far in such a short time on ProE!


ecosgriff- this was actually a really nice challenge! it shows that ProE isn't simply a modelling CAD packagebut a package that allow some real engineering to be done!
 
Isair, great bits of info. I have never really done much work in the automotive industry and to be very honest my mechanical background is quite limited

Sorry for not providing enough information. Most of the neccessities have been provided already. The challenge with the model was that although there was a well defined bore (the eptroid), there was no such definition for the rotor. It was simply the largest shape (more compression) that would not interfere with the bore.


I initially created the model because I wanted to see if I could create that bore, but then Inever finished with the rotor. I figured the rotor out about a month ago, and then finished the model you saw here.


So the challenge lies in figuring out how to actually define the geometry of the rotor, which is reliant on the geometry of the bore. I am also hoping someone else will create a more elegant solution to the problem than my own!

So I thought, there must be this arm.. But alsotrue is that I did not good result with this assembly during analysis of Trace Curve..

.. I saw link which send here Israr and there is an animated GIF file. This picture is one frame from that GIF. And interesting thing is> The pinion on that animation is fix anddoesnt rotating..If is that true, my assembly is good. But I dont think so.. But this topic is not about MDX.. When I will have a free time I hopeI will fix this problem..
