Change Name of Assembly

CWRIGHT

New member
I need to change the name of an assembly. This assembly is used in a drw. How do i tell the drawing to look for the new part #?

Thanks

If your drawing is complete and already dimensioned:

With the assembly open and active, go to File --> Rename. This will rename the assembly for you, and because it's not a "save as" command, the drawing will call out this new assembly name.

If you've only just started a drawing and want to replace what's in it:

With the drawing open and active, go to File --> Properties. "Add model" and select the new name. Then, "Replace Model."

Good luck,

I have done what you suggested. The assembly was successfully renamed but the drawing is still looking for the old assembly.

You have to have the drawing open before you rename the assy. After you rename the assy make sure the drawing saves. We usually make a minor change (i.e. move a note, ballon etc. a littleto make sure it saves.

There is a config option called rename_drawings_with_object. The default value is none. Change it to both. See if that works.

I am assuming you do not have Intralink. If you do, you can highlight both the drawing and the assembly in the workspace and choose Object>Duplicate Objects.

The "reanme-drawings_with_object only works if the drawing and the model have the same name.

To rename your assembly and have the drawing find the correct assembly, all you have to do is have the drawing open while renaming the assembly. After renaming the assembly, you MUST save the drawing. Once this is done, the drawing will look for the renmaed assembly.
