Changing param value for fam.tab instance

Hi all,
This question probably has been asked before, but I couldn't find the topic when I searched the forum.

I have this generic part with a parameter detail_no attached to it. The part has different instances based on its length and the detail_no will be different too.
Now the catch is I will be assigning the detail_no only in the assembly and it will be in a random fashion.

Adding just the parameter to the family table without any values to it can solve the problem??

Any help is greatly appreciated.
