Cloning an assembly?

Is it possible to clone an assembly so you can develop it further whilst keeping an unaffected original version. Basically I am making a dvd case one in 14mm depth and another in 22mm depth. I have completed the 14mm, and i would like to just alter the extrusion depth of the casings to make a wider version. But if i do this then it effects the 14mm version. any ideas?

Hello,

You ca use configurations. You make a configration on partlevel. After that make a configuration on assembly level. Insert the part in the assembly and select the right configuration. In your assembly file you can switch between the configurations.

Good luck

Or if you have SW 2007 or later, use SOLID WORKS EXPLORER. "Pack and Go" and you have a trueclone. SW EXPLORER works too withfilescreated in SW 2006.If you have an earlier version of SW you can make a copy of the entire folder with Windows Explorer. SW search for external referances first in the current folder so you have not troubles. DO NOT rename the assembly or parts if you do not use SW EXPLORER.
