Colors & Appearances

I have a model where I have taken one of theflat surfaces and added several cuts to it, very much like a cube that has slices through it. I want to add different colors to sectionsof the original surface that was sliced. However, ProE recognizes the original surface as a continuous surface, not as a group of sliced surfaces. I cannot separate the various surfaces to apply different colors to them.

Anybody have a tip?

Can I do this without adding 'depth'? I want to keep the model intact as far as width, depth, and length.

Here is how I would do it. Take a planar snapshot of the surface and bring it into Photoshop. make a new layer and color it how you would like to see it in the model. After you are done with that, sace it as a bitmap and apply the texture to the entire surface. Because you brought a planar snapshot into photoshop, the scale of the texture to the surface will be scaled perfectly. This way you donot have to duplicate any surfaces or make separate parts.

I do this alot to color the same surface with different colors.

here is an example on the hood of this car.

I appreciate everyone's ideas to help, but I cannot believe there isn't an easier and quicker way toapply simplecolors to individual surfaces (that share a plane). I really don't have time to do some of the things that have been suggested. All I want to do is be able to applydifferent colors to surfaces that have been sliced so that people who view my model can see thedifferences. I'm not creating a high quality brochure or anything like that, soI really don't needhigh quality rendering.

Don't need to add any depth, just be sure you are selecting surface features when you apply color. This is really pretty quick & easy.

Another alternative it to change how you model the part. Instead of making a big surface and applying cuts, if you create ribs or protrusions up to a common depth (datum perhaps), Pro/E will not treat them all as one surface even though they are coplaner.
