New member
My customer has given me a part file which have around 35 parameters

He is asking me to add all these parameters to the project that just got
finished

it have nearly 500parts.

Should I do this parameter work manually or what?

If so I will better kill that customer

35 arbitrary parameters in every models seems truly ludicrous.

however you can create, parameters and copy&paste values directly in the model tree though this method was far quicker and cleaner in 2001 than in subsequent releases. You could even write a mapkey to do it in your model tree.

Thanks go out to the PTC software Nazis for screwing up another great function.

P.S. I think you should delegate the hit on the customer

and i am on the verge of doing it

If you have to create new models with all these parameters in them, then I'd suggest copying of the models and strip out most of the features and use it as a start part.

The model tree method is pretty good if you have them all in an assembly. Show the parameters in the tree, and then click down the cells to add the parameters. Moving your model tree to the bottom of the window so you can see more columns helps too.

You can also open the customer's part file and save it as a neutral file. Then you can import the neutral file into each part file and it brings the parameters with it. you can then delete the import feature and the parameters remain. I've made a mapkey to automate this for when we have parts w/out our standard parameters.

You cannot use the neutral import on assemblies or (I think) sheet metal parts, but it still could save a bunch of time.

If they not in your top level component you can always manually hack your "tree.cfg" to force them to list or open a component that does possess them all before creating and saving your tree.cfg

I have several function buttons mapkeys that load different "tree.cfgs" to predetermined settings. I also have been permanently running the model tree undocked and virtually maximised in a second monitor since version 20 or 2000i. Then it becomes even more useful for parameter editing and it really makes me wonder how SW users can do without such a great feature.

The ablility to copy parameters to from one model to another was introduced in WF 4.0. I doubt that will help you out at all.

try this.. open relation window and copy which ever u want ..and open another model
and then paste the same in relation windows..the parameter updates automatically in parameter window.
for example thick=smt_thickness (in sheet metal)...these kind of relation will come automatically come in parameter list if we copy and paste in relation windows(dont forget to regenerate).
