Copying a surface

Hi,


I have a geometry through which fluid flows and I got to do a fluid dynamics analysis with it. The geometry was created and assembled in Pro/E. Since the geometry is highly skewed and contains many small edges, sharp angles etc, the fluids software finds difficulty in accepting it.


I was wondering if there's some way in Pro/E where we can just copy only those parts of the geometry where the fluid actually touches since those are the crucial areas for the analysis? What I mean is copy those critical areas into a new file and then use that as the model for analysis. Can ProE do this?

you can create a new part within the assembly (this is how copy geom
evolved) and just copy those surfaces that are large. Then when
in the part is separate and out from the assembly you would extend
surfaces and merge the part into a solid. Your model should be
simple enough to run your calculation.



I hope I did not over simplify with this solution. There
would be a couple more ways to get your calculation done using other
methods. Would be good to see a better example of your part
for giving a better solution.

Thanks a lot for the reply. If it's possible, could you please elaborate on your explanation. I'm relatively new to Pro/E and just started taking classes.


I've attached my part and assembly files. In my problem, the solid model is enclosed within a cylinder. Fluid flows from the bottom of the cylinder to the top. While flowing, it is supposed to touch the inner parts of the model as well as the inner surface of the cylinder. So the flange, bevel etc are the parts that actually come in contact with the fluid. I want to take those regions only (because I think this would simplify the geometry in a form that's acceptable to the CFD analysis software) and create a new file and use that for the other analysis. I'm wondering if this is possible.

These are the other two files. The veinvalve.asm file is assembled with the cylinder.prt file. As I mentioned earlier, I want the fluid to enter the bottom of the cylinder, enter the geometry, and then exit thru the top of the cylinder. So only the inside parts of the geometry are contacting the fluid. I want this area to be created separately in a new file to be used for the CFD analysis.
