Cost estimates?

Just wondering if anyone has ever done this before and if they could give me pointers on how to set it up....

We have a new cost engineer in our office who would like to add a cost parameter to all of our parts. He would like to be able to do this for all of the piece parts and then setup some sort of mapkey to sum the cost parameter for all of the piece parts in an assembly to get a cost estimate of the upper level assembly.

I personally think it is a crazy idea, but he would like to presue it...

It would be pretty easy to do.

Set up a repeat region table in a drawing that reports the part name andcost parameter. Then there are tools in the repeat region menu to sum a collumn of your table. Once you have made the table once you can save it as a table file and place it over and over for new assemblys.

From the help file in fundamentals:
User-defined parameters-Additional information that you can attach to geometry.
You can add user-defined parameters to an assembly, part, feature, or entity. For example, you can create a COST parameter for each part in the assembly. Then, you can include the COST parameter in your Bill of Materials to calculate the total cost of the assembly.

Not so crazy, I guess.
