Creating a Dummy Model from an assembly

We have a machine, we have an engine on the machine. The Engine model alone is very complicated. However all it's internal components are not required on machine assembly. All we really need is an accurate dummy model of the engine. Is it possible to create a dummy model from an assembly.? Maybe it would combine all parts into one solid or something so that it takes less time to load. Any suggestions

I would suggest you open your engine sub-assembly and save that as a part by itself instead of an assembly. You may want to name it with the "part ONLY" as a portion of the file name. You'll need only a few mates to keep it in place just like a regular part on your machine.

All the internal details (minus the assembly references) will still be saved if you do a "save as part." I suggest you create a configuration of the assembly that removes all the internal parts, and uses a simplified configuration of the engine block to help further reduce the number of details.

You could then do a "save as part," although you may find that making the new simplified configuration of the assembly is all that's needed for better performance.

yeah i think that is what i'll end up doing, either making a simple configuration or a new simple assembly.Id heard someone say that it was possible to generate a dummy model, where you are left with a block which has the external details only. Have searched but havent found anything since. Thanks

I have the same problem with the equipment that I design. You probably received a large assembly model of the engine from a vendor and you would like to simplify it. I have found it best to suppress off as many parts or detail as possible in the assembly first. The next step is the save the assembly as a part. This done by the

I ended up saving a copy of the engine assy. I then deleted as much out as i could so that it retainined all planes and axis, but had only 5 parts instead of 45. Reduced model to 50% original size. Could do a part save but haven't yet

Raghu-

Look where the FeatureManager design tree usually is,and you willsee three tabs (usually). Click the one all the way to the right, which is the ConfigurationManager.

You now willsee a tree- this is the configuration tree. Right click on the very top (it should say "filename Configuration(s)") and choose Add Configuration. Name it and click OK. The new configuration is now active. Suppress what you want and save.

Now you can switch between configurations as needed.
