Creating a helical surgical stent

I am an Aeronautics Student carrying out a final year project on stent design for angioplasty. I am having great trouble designing a helical stent in Pro/Engineer. I have managed to create a helical tube of circular cross section and now need to somehow make a cut and copy/pattern it all around and along the tube to create a stent. I have tried many features but failed to do so successfully. Apparently I need to use variable section sweeps and daturm curves for this, which I am totally inexperienced in, so if possible please could you write in detail the procedure. The stent needs to then be imported into abaqus for FE analysis.

Many Thanks
