creating an angled tube in ProE

Im a a final year universtiy student currently doing a degree in performance car tech, i am trying to design a lower wishbone for a motor vehicle and am having problems trying to draw angled tube.

so far my best attemp has been this

wishbone2.jpg

however the two parallel lines need to be converging at the end that is nearest and i can not find a way to do this, they need to be perfectly straight tho (ie not bent but just at an angle.)

can anyone give me quick hints or a list of instructions to enable me to draw an angled round bar as i can hollow it no probs! the best i have got so far is to draw a large block and keep extruding cut till i get an angled bar and then cut a tube out and then hollow it but that isnt working properly either!

Create the "horizontal" tube first. Cut the ends of the tube at the desired angle. Create thesecond tube asa "revolve". When doing the sketch, align the "axis of revolution" with the "cut edges".

Then create the other tube the same way.

With intersecting tubes you are probably better off using a thin extrude up to surface instead of revolves.

Also, have you asked whether you are you better off creating the tubes as parts that are put together in an assembly instead of doing everything in part mode.

thanks for that help, will give that a go!

have never tried to assembul items so am not sure of how to go about doing that in all honesty.

thanks

I do a lot of bike frame designs, and you are better off doing it all in the one part file as this will be easiest for you to handle at this point.

Further on down the lineif you want individual parts you can create your design using surfaces in a part file then use publish geo to give you references to create your parts. Design changes propogate from the surface file to the parts automatically.

Remember, take small steps and learn the basics functions, everthing else is built on these...

Have fun!!

couldnt get the cut to work on the end of the tube for love nor money.. had to take a realy long winded approach to do the model in the end but it has been done, how i ended up doing it was

draw a solid bar with a data plane as midpoint

cut ends at required angle

shape the bar to tube using cut both sides

hollow tube as above

then used the revolve to create the required angled tubes as sugested above.

[/list]
thanks for all the help and i will just keep doing simple things to increase my knowledge of the program.

James to further you along a wee bit, send me a line drawing of what you are trying to achieve and I will see what I can do on it and send it back to you.

You sound like your under pressure at the minute for this!! Ahh the good life of uni days!!!
