Creating external reference w/o assembly

I'm using Pro/E Wildfire 4.0. I have a shell part and am designing a head to snap to the top of the shell. Obviously I would like to reference a sketch in the head part to the shell, so that any slight changes in shell dimension are reflected in the head design. I figured out how to do this by creating the part in assembly mode; is there any way to create an external relation/reference to a sketch in another part without using assembly mode?

Thanks,
Benj

yes this is prime example of when to use the advanced assembly extension. You can make an external geometry copy using Insert->shared data->copy geometry. This allows you to make an independent or dependent copy of geometry without using an assembly as a reference/parent.

If that menu is grayed out you currently do not have the advanced assembly extension launched. Relaunch ProE with AAX if possible. If your company doesnt have advanced assembly extensionat all then you must resort to other methods like you previously talked about.
