Creating New Simp Rep - WF2

When creating a new simplified rep in WF2 it always 'transfers' what the current/active rep has into the new rep. This is very annoying, as I have toremoved whatwas transfered fromactive rep that Ido not want in the new rep that I am creating. I did not have this issue in 2001. WhenI created a new rep in 2001 nothing came in and I had the option of picking what I wanted to bring into the rep (generally used Exclude as a default). Is there a config to change the set up of a new simplified rep to not bring in the components on the active rep? Thanks!

Sounds like you either want to load the master rep before creating the new one or go to the properties tab and shift + selectremove everything in the list except the top item. (I've never used pre-WF so might be missing the point completely.)

I discovered the same thing when going from 2001 to Wildfire 2.0. Creating simplified reps in Wildfire is initially hard to figure out. I still do not quite have a good grasp on it. Like a few other things, it was easier to make simplified reps in 2001....IMHO. If I want to create a simplified rep I have the master rep up then I pick the parts/assemblies I want in my simp rep and I go to View>Representation>Master Rep. Open the View Manager and select New.

If you have the master rep loaded and want to create a rep with just a few components,

Open the View Manager.

Create New rep.

Switch to dialog Properties page.

Select the components to make up the rep; graphics window, model tree, etc. (RMB, Select Parent for sub assy's)

Select Master Rep button.

Go back to the dialog List page and Update to save.

There are variations, but that's sorta straight forward.

Thanks for all your input. Problem is, we work with very LARGE assemblies. We cannot open a master rep on our large assemblies. It just does not work. It is rare if we do not use 'open rep' when opening the assembly file.

When we create reps in the large assemblies, we alwaysset the top level assembly as EXCLUDE and then bring in what we need as either Master, Substitute, and on occasion - Geometry.

Any other insight? Is this maybe something that is 'fixed' or 'back to how it worked in 2001' in WF3? I have to agree with markp - it was easier in 2001.

Thanks!
