creation of mirrored part in assembly mod

dear all!

i hav made one part , which will be right side in one plastic enclosure. in assembly mode i hav created one empty part which will be the left side of assembly. i hav put left part in a activate mode and copied all surfaces of right part and mirrored &solidified that copied surface . so what ever feature i made in right part that will be reflected in the left part. thats fine. but now thing is i need some limited features in right (reference)part , that should not be reflected in left part.

is there any possible way to do like this?

There is an easier way to make a mirrored part in Wildfire 2.0 (you will need to put dimensions on the drawings rather than use show/erase for the mirrored features).

Create the left part (which doesn't have the extra features) & place in the assembly.

In the assembly create a new part, mirrored. Place as appropriate, and make the modifications in the mirrored part.

If you want to create a mirror of a part and not have it associated to the other side you create a typical assy and assemble the completed part, next create a new part, mirror it by copy and pick an assy datum to mirror it about.

Call up the new mirrored part and save it, now delete the assy out of memory, do not save the assy.

I'm trying to create a mirror of a (sheet metal) part in assembly mode. I'm using WF2 M120.

I pick Insert/Component/Create. In the Component Create dialog box I pick type part & Sub-type Mirror & give it a name. So far so good. For the planar reference I can pick either a part datum or an assembly datum but either way, it won't let me pick the part to mirror. I keep getting the error message "The selected entity is external. It cannot be backed up." I have changed the external reference control to ALL and unchecked backup forbidden references in both the assembly and the part.

What am I missing?

PTC support gave ne the following config settings which solved the problem:

ALLOW_REF_SCOPE_CHANGE YES
DEFAULT_EXT_REF_SCOPE ALL
DEFAULT_OBJECT_SCOPE_SETTING ALL
IGNORE_ALL_REF_SCOPE_SETTINGS YES
MODEL_ALLOW_REF_SCOPE_CHANGE YES
SCOPE_INVALID_REFS COPY

I think I already had all thosed set except IGNORE_ALL_REF_SCOPE_SETTINGS which is a new one to me. Seems like that one should over ride all the rest! This is one area of Pro/E that I still find extremely obtuse. Anyone have a lucid explanation of the difference between reference_scope & object_scope, etc?
