Curved milling

1) I used VSS. circular secrion... If the trajectory goes all the way up to the upper surface, it fails. Probably because it tries to add och remove zero material in the end of the sweep. But I really want to go all the way up. You can see the remaining "roof" because of the unfinishend sweep.


2) The finished hole doesnt look like it had been done by a mill that first drills down and then withdraws together with a sideways motion...


I probably need a VVS (Variable Volume Sweep) to mate this feature...





Any more tips please?
 
The VSS is a very useful and flexible tool. The options you select will yield drastically different results.

The first pic you show it looks like you picked Constant Normal Direction rather than Normal To Trajectory. You can also extend the trajectory curve(s). The extension trajectory is tangent to that point and curve. Here's another quick video showing these concepts.

I also recommend checking out Leo Greene's video on the VSS. Very informative but only scratches the surface into what a VSS can do like controlling dimensions with graphs or relations.

I do not want the Normal to Trajectory. Because thats not what happens when a mill withdraws with a sideways motion. The bottom surface of the mill will always bealigned with the bottom surface in 3-axis milling.I want the mill to withdraw and at the same time create a tangent to the upper plane.





I'll try to extend the end of the curve, but I suspect that a "fail due to zero material removed" will occur.

you probably could do "all" that in your VSS. As a solid cut. Dont need to play with surfaces. (it
