date code incompatibility?

New member
Hi all,

I was advised by Pro/Help line that anyone should be able to open files regardless of datecode, as long as both are running the same build of Pro, in my case WF3 for this particular customer.

I uploaded the files, and I get a message as follows from my customer:
I was trying to open your files using ProE WF 3.0<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
I was keep getting massage of

There shouldn't be any issues going from date-codeto date-code (also called 'builds'), however that doesn't mean that there aren't. New version to old version (WF3 to WF2 for example) has always been impossible, but not build to build in the same version. There was one build of 2001 (I think) that had an issue like this and PTC quickly pulled it when it became known. Other than that, I've never heard of such an issue.

Try to get the exact text of the error they are getting. How are you sending them files? Are the zipped first? It's possible that they are getting corrupted during transmission, try sending them again and make sure you zip them.

Just to let you know, we got the issue resolved. There doesn't appear to be a problem after I zipped the file and sent that by ftp.

There is no incompatibility after all. Thanks Doug for the suggestion to zip up the assembly. That saved us a big headache. This forum is great

Glad I could help. I've heard that un-zipped files are more prone to corruption (why? I dunno), but had never heard of it actually happening before.
