I have only used mechanica to determine stresses on a component or assembly with theforcesor momentsalready known. I know where I want my force applied, and the constraint, but is it possible for mechanica to find the load that will cause the part to fail?
Mechanica calculates linear. If you load your model with any force F and get a max stress S, the force limit will be Fl=F*Sl/S with Sl =Stress limit.
If you apply two or more load sets, you can even add the factor Sl/S to your load for the result window.
attention: Mechanical only perform LINEAL calculation (only the elastic zone of your material)..as miya wrote.
but the creteria of failure is not only based in a simple lineal stress analysis, It can be possible that your model will fail due to stability (buckling) before to reach even your limit stress... so you need to consider other factor to get a "failure critaria".
