hey all

When i try to dimension like a simple square with 1 click on the centerline 1 click on the normal line and then again one click on the center line i ge the message:this dimension type is not allowed, cannot create specified dimension.

yesterday it worked fine, so did i change a setting of some sort? been strulling with it for quite a while now

greetings Robbert

Hi,

Check whether you havecreaated the centre-line.

Dont use datum line for dimensioning. it wil end up with the problem which you specified.

Hope this will the solution.

If not attach a snap of it.

hi,

I've created the correct centerline, i checked it multiple times. I will upload a pic first thing on monday because i can only acces this at work

Why not just pick the edge of the square and place the dimension?

It sounds like you are trying to make a diameter dimension but are doing it backwards. Pick the line, pick the center line, pick the first line again and then place the dimension. You description picks the center line twice which has never worked in any release of Pro/E.

Hey dr_gallup,

We can use the centreline twice to place the dimension in any relese of Pro/Engineer.

Check-out.

Rverheij Hi again,

What version do you use? WF4.0 or 5.0?

If it is WF5.0,, make sure you use construction line, not the geometric line or construction line!!!

Bala - Dr. G was just pointing out a shortcut for you to use. One click on the line and one click where you want the dimension. Trust me, he knows pro-e. You could also just use the show dimension to get what you want.

Krow, You can't use show dimension in a sketch...

Poster, sounds like you're using a construction line instead of a centerline.
Dr, you can click it either way.

The order of picking centerline vs line does not matter.
Center - line - center
line - center - line
both result in a diameter dim

I am speaking of within the sketch mode.

Today center - line - center is working, I tried it when the original post was made and got the same "cannot create specified dimension" message.

I have never had a problem with line - center - line. Works first time, every time. This is the proper method, no idea why center - line - center would ever work, it makes no sense.

Well said, even I was trying to convey the same thing.

Dross - when I posted I saw the heading "dimension" and automatically shifted into drawing mode. Guess I need to get more sleep at night!
