Disappearing dims

Afternoon all,

I am new somewhat to any WF but currently on wf 3.0. In the past when creating a part in asm mode I would offset edges from existing geometry in the asm. Redim the new entities to planes within the new part as so to not be referencing any asm geometry. I have tried this and am having a really hard time having pro telling me my dims are conflicting. So I went and just resketched the geometry close to what I wanted not offsetting anything and then redim to part planes. Everything seemed fine. No external references so it told me. Asm by coord sys by the way. Going back into part, edit definition, edit sketch the dims pop up quickly and then disappear. I cannot get the dims to appear so I can modify my sketch. Also I did create dims while in the part sketch to existing asm geometry BUT changed them to ref dims. But I do not see them either. Any help as to where my dimensions went to or should I not dim and change to ref? Why can I not do offset edge and then redim to part planes and delete the offset dims to existing geometry? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
