disassociating surfaces

Hello,


I have imported geometry from our customer of an existing part. I want to take a specific surface from that imported geometry and create a completely new part from this part that has no associations to the original imported geometry.


I have tried copy and then paste special in the new part, but it is confusing as to what they are asking for to place the new surfaces. Also, ptc support doesn't help.


Has anyone created completely disassociated surfaces before in a new part?

Go to Insert/shared Data/Copy geometry from other mode. Acces to this kind of feature depends of your license of Pro/E.
You can choose "independent" at dependency tab if that what you desire.
Hope that's helpful.
 
Simplest solution is to export the desired surface(s) / quilt(s) and import into the new part.


You can, probably,also copy / paste / copy geom, with various nuances depending on presence of AAX, and collapse the copied geometry into an Independent Geometry Feature.


Not sure what PTC support couldn't help with but see Help -> Part -> Edit Features -> Using Paste Special for info about that (notrelevant to task at hand) function.
 
Several solutions...

One, delete everything out of the import geometry except that surface. Edit Definition then just pick a surface and hit the delete key.To make a window in WF3.0 and delete a window of surfaces you choose edit delete... I don't have proe open in front of me. Wildfire 4.0... i did not figure out how to delete multiple surfaces in WF4.0 ... Jeff, did you figure how do do that?

Two. Like jeff says. Copy the surface and extend that then export just the copy extend surface. Maybe copy geom is too much for an import geometry.

Third... and the best way is to rebult the surface using four bounding curves. That way you get your customer exactly what they want but did not know enough to ask for. A robust model that can get them what they want. The surface close enough for a CNC.But a model they need to change 4 or 5 times and get CNC each time. A seat they can sit on and change over and over until its right.

Following up to discuss what I did. Basically, what design-engine suggested above (all done in WF 3.0)


First, I determined specifically which surfaces I wanted to keep. For me, there were only two surfaces on the entire part. The rest of the data was ribs, holes, radii, etc.


Second, I went into the import geometry and selected "edit definition".


Third, select the "delete" key. This will pull up another menu which allows me to select a range of surfaces (and curves, datum planes, and points). This was quick as I could select a large amount of surfaces at one time with my mouse and dragging the slection box around the surfaces I wanted removed. When the surfaces were selected then I simply hit "done" and the unwanted surfaces disappeared.


For me, there were other things I had to do to get the geometry to be useable, but this was how I was able to get one single surface from the imported geometry without dragging along all that other unnecessary information.
