Are there any known limitations to converting drawing files from Pro/e 2001 student to dwg's?


I use wildfire 3 at work, and i have 2001 student at home from when i was in college. I made a set of deck plans at home that I would like to plot out at work and obviously I can't open the .drw files at work. My plan was to save a copy as .dwg or .dxf, open them in AutoCAD at work and plot them from there. When i save the copy it shuts the program down. Does anybody know why it might be doing this?


I am open to any sugestions and other work arounds to plot my drawings.

I have had problems opening DXF files in AutoCAD that were exported from other CAD programs: SolidWorks in my case. But saving them as DWG files in SolidWorks worked fine: you might try this option.

the main reason that pro/e shuts down when converting drw. to dwg. or dxf. is memory. i think your file size is too large and you have low memory in your computer. you can try by increasing the virtual memory of your system. i think it will work.


read the message lines while pro/e is converting the file. it will tell you the problem

try this in your config.pro file and export to dxf

I had a feeling that it might be a hardware limitation, my computer is not new. I will try to increase the virtual memory.


What does the "dxf_export_format 12" do?

it makes proe export in release 12 format


options 12, 13, and 14


default is 14

i don't think the option wsylvester is saying will work in this condition.


as this option is just asking you to select the version of ACAD you want to tranfer the file. the memory usage remain the same no matter in what realese you tranfer.


please let me know if i am wrong

Well I have found awork around... sort of. If I save as a .dxf Pro/E will shut down all the way. I did find that it does make the .dxf file, and the file does open in AutoCAD. I just don't know why the program would shut down.

I ran into the same problem with 2001sv.. and when I set to 12 it worked, it would still crash if I tryed to dwg out but was able to dxf without problems.


why it would make a difference..beats me.
