DXF out

I am having trouble exporting a .DXF file (flat sheet metal part) that when it exports, any curve or arc is exported as a smoth line. I am exporting into another software called AP100. When brought up in another software, all the arcs show up as tons of very small segments or not at all. Near worthless when using a laser to cut flat patterns. I have brought it up to PTC and they best they could give me was, "try several options and see if you can get it to export smooth". I also imported my own dxf and it still has breaks and smaller segments to prove the point. My main goal is to export a flat pattern as a single spline. Does anyone know how to export in DXF so that I get this result???

Does ProE have an option that controls the amount of segments used to create an arc? I know that AutoCAD has this option. Even though there will be segments, the greater number of segments will give you the apperence of a smoother arc.

We have alway's had this trouble. We open the dxf files in Coral draw and fix the broken arcs and missing lines in there. So far i have found nothing in pro which resolves this problem.

I have exported the exact same dxf to an autocad file and it shows all the small segments as well. In other dxf viewers it does not appear that way. It would seem that PTC has a problem in the export process.

I can however export the dxfwith spline se;eced so that it does make most every straight line segment all one but still no luck yet on curves and arcs. I'll let you know if we come across a solution. Thanks!

Tomh - There is a option but does not seem to havethe effect that I am looking for. Good thought though.

DXF's from Pro/Ehave always the mentioned small edges in arcs and curves. And they have been there as long as I remember. DXF's opened in Pro/E gets the same non-usable result. Do not try to uses the (loop of) edges in sketcher!

The only solution I can think of is to use another export file format. In Pro/E you can export a drawing to IGES. In Autocad (or Rhino or whatever) you can open that IGES and convert it then to DXF.

STEP generates in most cases a better result than IGES,and both apply to 2D drawings as well. When exporting drawings it can be helpfull to blank your sheet.

And yes, it is unbelievable that this CAD data exchange trouble still exists in 2005. It was always a problem, it is always a problem and I'm convinced that it will be always a problem in thefuture...!

which version of proe are u working ?

as i remember PTC has solved the problem of transforming the radius in several small edges in an unfolded view since Proe 2002140
