In part mode (ProE2001):



Simply create a Cut or Protrusion feature. Define your sketch plane and
its orientation.

Once you are in the sketch mode click Sketch -->
Text .... --> Sketch a vertical line (= height of the characters)
--> Type your text in the dialog box and confirm.

You should now have your characters in/on your model.

You mean something like this ?

Just create a surface with an offset to the 'base' surface.

Create your protrusion/cut with depth option 'Upto surface'.

Set that 'extra' created surface to a layer and finally 'blank' that layer which contains that 'extra' surface.



In this case I created a protrusion, to create a cut its the same technique...
