I think you can only change the parent view then the detail view will update. Otherwise, make a general partial view so you can have complete control. You will have to fake the detail circle, view name notes, etc.
Dr_Gallup is correct. You can only control the parent view to control the line display of a Detailed View. Erase the geometry in the parent view and Regen the view.
