Error message with packaging

Hi all,


I work with an engineer who is designing a pwb and has certain components that he wants to position on the board. He wants to install them by packaging them so he can move them around and see where the best placement is. When he tries to do insert-component-package he gets the following error message: Can not perform this operation; Assembly feature instances of model in session." (We use Wf 2.0)


I don't know what that message means but I told him I'd put it out on the forum to see if anyone knows how to overcome/fix this problem. Anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Just assemble it regularly and leave it partially
constrained, it will result in a packaged part.

Thanks CSUSIE. Imentioned that tohim, but that won't work for him. Yes, it is considered packaged when it is partially constrained, however, when you go to redefine it's position and move it around, all the components in the model tree after that particular item will disappear. He needs to be able to move the objects around the board while all the other objects are still displayed. Thanks again. Any other suggestions?

Can you click on it in the model tree and drag it to the bottom of the tree?

Thanks, I can do that, but he wants to be able to move all the components around on the board. Seems like kind of a hassle to have to keep dragging the part you want to move to the bottom of the model tree. It can be done that way. Does anyone have any other thoughts/ideas? Thanks for the help.

Can he place the component on the board with one constraint and then drag it around using the "Drag Component" hand from the toolbar. That doesn't effect any other component. If required he may need another constraint for orientation so the component is rotated correctly.


I'll use this if I want to test an assembly at different positions. Just edit definition and uncheck the constraint you don't want to use at that point in time. Re-check it to put the component back where it was.
