Evaluating Intralink 8.0

Can any of you Intralink 8.0 users out there help me please. I want to test out Intralink 8.0 for myself before deciding whether to upgrade from 3.3 or not. I have my disks and a spare server but Im not sure how the licensing now works.

I understand that licensing for Intralink 8.0 is not done through FlexLM so how does Intralink 8.0 recognise the fact that I am a licensed user?

Do I have to contact PTC to obtain a new file or some sort of permit so that I can use it? Or can I just install it onto my spare server and run it?

I am trying to avoid contacting PTC about this because at this stage I just want to try it out. Every time I ask a question of them they sniff "SALE!!!!" and rush in here offering me training, support etc etc. I cant get a straight answer out of anyone. At this point I want to decide "do I want to upgrade" not "how am I going to upgrade".

You will need a new license file and Intralink is still license controlled.

Read the Intralink blogs at ptc.com.

I have been on the Intralink 8 training course, and the instructor told us that it does not use licences in the normal way. It creates a log file which can be checked to see if you are using the correct number of licences.

To answer your question, you do not need a licence server running on the machine you are using, you just need to make sure you do not use more licences than you are entitled to.

I have a test server running without a licence server.

Thanks for that sarah, a straight answer to my straight question
