Expanded Metal

herb

New member
I have a quick project I need to knock out for the boss.

Given enough time I could figure it out, I need something rather quickly.

Does anyone have any good ideas for modeling a sheet of expanded metal?

Or know of where I could download one?

Or would anyone have a model they would share?

Thanks in advance,

Herb

I already accomplished my bosses goal by making a solid and applying a translucent color to it.

I guess now I'm just more curious as to how one would go about modeling expanded metal. I know it would be memory intensive and slow to regen, but, "Inquiring minds want to know".

Hi Herb,

If this is what i think you are talking about. Try this:

Do an extrusion of "one" expanded metal shape probably a diamond.

then the next step is to sketch a spline around the extruded shape you just made.

then pick your extrusion in your browser and pick pattern.

Select "FILL" pick the sketched spline in the browser, this will make as many patterns of the extruded shape with in the spline. go back and edit as needed.

hope this helps.
