Exporting a 2D Cross Sec as a IGES Surf

How do I take my part cross section and export it as a flat surface to bring it into Ansys? I am able to make the surface feature by cuttingthe part in half, then picking the resulting surface and choosing #Edit, #copy, #Edit, #paste, or by using the Fill command. Either way, I cannot choose just that surface for export. What am I doing wrong?

You could make a sketch using the edges as a reference. Save the sketch. Make a new part using the sketch and fill command.


On the other hand, I thought you could just save the part as an iges file, and select the surface checkbox and uncheck the solid option. That would be faster.
