Extruding at an angle

As the title says, is it possible to extrude at an angle? Kind of like drawing a circle and making it a slanted cylinder.

Onemethod to get similar outcome was to make a slanted datum plane and draw on thatand extrude to the surface(this surface would have been the drawing surface if the slanted extrusion can be done).

  1. Create a sketch of what you want to extrude.
  2. Create a datum plane at an angle to that sketch plane, corresponding to the angle you want to extrude to.
  3. Create a sketch on that plane, using the 'use edge' command to 'trace' the original sketch on the new plane.
  4. Use that sketch to extrude on the desired angle.
You could use an internal sketch for the extrude (my preference) as well.

Thanks for the reply Doug.

Got the slanted cylinder using your method(kind of similar to mine).

I guessthe only way is to do itsomewhere along these lines....

On the side note, to create an angled datum plane I usually create a datum axis and then reference the datum plane and axis to get the angled datum plane. Is this how everyone else does it?

Sorry for asking some common sense questions but learning on my own has its limitations

Thanks again though!

songah - you can also use blend to do this. You would have to use trig to figure out the dimension for the angle but it would work.

Yes kdem that is what I was trying to explain although the top part of the cylinderI wanted to have flat like the base.

Neuronex,I was not limiting myself to just a cylinderbut any shape in general.

I haven't thought of using blend for this but I just tried and it was exactly what I was looking for and extremely easy as I had hoped. Thanks for the insight Krow72!

Okay, that's what I thought but wasn't sure. The way I did it was to create a sketched curve at an angle for the trajectory and use the variable section sweep using Normal to Projection to get the end condition for the cylinder. To get the different shape for the cylinder end I created a surface of the desired contour and used Edit>Offset to Replace the surface of the cylinder with the other surface.
