Fake Dimensions.

How do you create fake dimensions that are not driven by the model but have fictional values?

I am working on a cable drawing and there is a break and I can't seem to create a dimension and modify the value to reflect the intended dimension rather than the real dimension from the model..

I am using an early version of WF 3.0

Thanks.

You can only fake a created dim. If the dim you're trying to change is a shown model dim, it ain't gonna work.

Related question: I've got a dimension which varies from 7.5mm to 7.4mm, and the boss wants it to read "7.5 Max"; Is there a way to get just one limit to display, WITHOUT faking the dimension? Faking dimensions has always come back to bite me.

It seems if the dim is going to say "7.5 MAX" then 7.4 isn't your lower limit. Saying MAX implies that 7.3 is acceptable, heck even 4.2 or 0.5 is good.

In that case, make the nominal 7.5 and add the "MAX" text to the dim and be done.

No, actually it's a zone with a restricted tolerance, subject to an overall tolerance, so the lower limit is supplied elsewhere. And our practice is to draw the nominal to the center of the tolerance zone, always, so I can't change the nominal here.

Agreed, it's not the way I'd prefer to call it out, but my boss and I have these disagreements sometimes, and I like to get paid.

Guess I'll settle for the faked dimension. At least that let me complete the drawing.

Nominal value of this dim is 7.45 - is it correct?

To show "7.5 MAX": create dim, set number of dec. places to "1" and add "MAX" to dim text. Real (shown) dim in this case should keep 2 dec. places.

Another method:

Set upper tol limit to 0.05

In model mode: EDIT>SETUP>DIM BOUND

Set Selected Dim to "Upper"

Create dim in drawing. It will be 7.5 or 7.5000 if required. Shown dim will be "7.45", colour grey.
