Family tables - using WF3 & Windchill

Hi

My colleagues and I are having trouble copying parts that have family table associated to them.

The company that we work for has just gone over to WF3 and windchill.

When we start a new part windchill automatically takes out a number for the component etc. This is where the problem lies.

We have a number of sheetmetal components on the drawings we need to show formed and flat pattern views, we have done this by using a family table. The parts in the table appear as 123234 and 123234_flat. All went well with the first component and its drawing.

We now need to make a similar part, easy we thought, <File> <save a copy> then the trouble starts because windchill appears to only give one number at a time, therefore it cannot give a number for the flat instance of the new part and an error message appears saying that the original number is in use.

We have tried copying the part in windchill itself this gives the drawing, part, and flat instance all different numbers. At present we are persevering down this route and are trying to rename the part and the instance back to that of the drawing to keep everything logical, however we are struggling to achieve this, has anyone else met this problem?

Is it a setting in windchill?

We have twice logged a call with PTC but they have not come up with an answer!
