Feature Recognition in Imported Geometry

Can Proe recognize features from an imported model say an .igs file (any neutral file format) or from native files like Inventor / Catia / Rhino? Is there any support for Solidworks files? I have enabled the config.pro option "frt_enable" to "yes". But nothing seems to be happenning.

My understanding of "Feature Recognition Tool" is to convert Holes in the model to fully parametric "Holes" in the model tree and like wise for other features. I am not getting any such thing other than the basic imported model and a list of faces or surfaces.

Am I going wrong somewhere? Am I expecting too much? I am on WF5.

We got a demo from PTC of what you're talking about earlier this year, similar to SolidWorks Feature Works. From what I remember it was an add-on and not part of the standard WF5 package.

For WF5 it should be included so there is no download. You do need to set the config.pro option frt_enabled to use it. You should see additional icons that are similar to the feature icons hole, extrude, etc. (they have the bonocular in the lower corner). For the selection you select an edge of the feature you want to replace or the seed surface (surface holes are placed on).

It may be a purchased option, where I work they have just about every option so its hard to say what is optional, but Ididn'tfind anythingsaying it was a purchased option. As I understand it the FRT has been integrated into WF5 so it is installed using the installer and not a separate download. I did find this in a document in the resource center:
Feature Recognition Tool

The Feature Recognition Tool (FRT), a former plug-in application, is integrated into
Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0. FRT recognizes geometry representing features and
replaces the geometry with Pro/ENGINEER features. Do not install the downloadable
plug-in, which is only for Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0. The plug-in will cause FRT to fail
to start correctly.
Note:
Before starting Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0, you must set the frt_enabled
configuration option to yes in the config.pro configuration file in the working

directory.

Nice - no wonder I haven't seen it in awhile. It never seemed to work right for me -always changing holes to be too small or too big.
