file size varies w model display settings

I always wondered why native Proe file sizes could fluctuate so much and realized that the file size was affected by the model display settings (i.e. a 16Mb file drops to 6Mb when its shading quality is set from 10 to 3).

I wonder why that is...

Is it not possible to save a prt file w/ only geometric information and let the retrieving system deal w/ all display settings and tesselation?Proeshould be doing this on the fly IMHO...

Any hints to the most effective way to save prt files welcome...

Probably this is the cause of the save model display setting which saves "preview" of the model/drawing into the part/assy/drawing file.

Try setting the following option in your "config.pro" file and see how small it can get!!!!

One other interesting thing, and probably useless information, regarding this subject:

Compare the file size of a part after supressing all features.
Haven't checked it for a while but in previous releases (20 I think it was) there was a huge difference in size, which is strange since the file has to contain all information anyway (except for graphics)

Hi there,

Whenever i have to send a pro/e file of any kind via email i suppress all features by suppressing the first feature on the model tree. This reduces the file size by a huge amount, the file then can be zipped up which reduces the size even more.

Remember to add a note to your email letting the recipient know do do a "resume all" or "resume last set" after opening the file.
