flat pattern

Did you make the part in sheetmetal or convert from a solid? I know the round feature could be a form but I haven't been able to make corner "forms" (ribs) like you have.

If the part is a convert then it may be impossible to convert to a flat pattern...

Pros, Let me know if that's true. If you can make corner stiffeners please let me know how.

Joe,

That looks like a part that would be "drawn" over a mandrel after creating the 90 degree bend.

I do not think Pro/E can create a flat pattern of a "drawn" part.

If somebody can prove me wrong, please do.

yes, this is possible. I did a part just like this. If you create it in Sheetmetal, and make the gussets as forms or dies, then it will convert to flat pattern.

The ribs can also be created by form feature. The (ribs) depth shoud be greater than inside R.

Of course Proe cannot unbend the part using flat pattern feature. If you need a flat pattern, you can do at this way...

1) create a family table, the new instance name to be "flat"

2) open the "flat",

3) suppress the form feature

4) create flat pattern

Then you can have a part with flat pattern.

ok, well I started trying, but don't have time to play right now. It's been a few years since I did this bracket....for automotive....Jeep Cherokee. I did have the gussets, and flat pattern on the drawing, but perhaps I suppressed them for the flat pattern, and I'm just not remembering that part.

Zeta is right you can't unbend that part unless you suppress thatrib (gusset).

Some time ago I searched the PTC knowledge database for something like this and I found a reference for 2001 where they said you can't unbend it unless the form feature is suppressed.

But maybe until now they found a way to flatten that form

I will try to search the database again to see the "latest news".

Hey friends , don't you think that if we supress the rib form and create the flat pattern then we will not have the correct flat pattern.....i know there is a method to create flat part but just cannot recall how to ...its for sure a little complex process...but its possible ...so if anybody find out how it would very helpful.....for noe i m just going by the trial and error method

joseph_pais,

have you tried to make a flatten form feature?

insert-->shape-->flat form

you will have to flatten all of the form features by selecting them all one by one. You may have to unbend the bend first. Once that is done you can make the flat state or flat pattern feature.

check the help files regarding "about flatten forms" to see when it can be used and how...if the form crosses a radius that there are limits and some forms have to be suppressed

cheers,

M

Since it is a 3D deformation ProE does not calculate this into the flat pattern. You are personally responsible for the feature. Like in a deepdrawn form feature ProE does not limit you in any way, whereas reality DOES impose limits on how deep you can go without tearing apart the sheet.
