flatten a part for tool & die

I design die's for a living and have not found a fast way to flatten a part. I get import data from the customer then have to make it for each station and it can take some time to do. I have sheet metal but the 90% of the time doesn't work do to either certain features or variable thickness of the part. Any ideas would be helpfull.
