For creating Spring

You'll create your spring by sweeping a profile along a helical path.


The first step is to create the helix:

  1. <LI>Sketch a circle that represents the centerline diameter of the spring. Exit the sketch.</LI>
    <LI>Click Insert > Curve > Helix/Spiral...</LI>
    <LI>Select the sketched circle (if it has not already been preselected).</LI>
    <LI>Input the helix parameters in the PropertyManager.</LI>
    <LI>Click OK. You have now created the helical sweep path.</LI>


The second step is to create the profile:

  1. <LI>Click Insert > Reference Geometry > Plane...</LI>
    <LI>Click the endpoint of the helix. Then click the helix itself near the endpoint. This will create a plane at the endpoint, normal to the curve. Click OK.</LI>
    <LI>Create a sketch of the profile (a circle)on this curve. You may have to constrain the circle using the "pierce" constraint (select the helix near the endpoint, hold CTRL button down and select the circle's center).</LI>
    <LI>Click OK. Now the profile is complete.</LI>


The third step is to create the sweep. The easiest way is to preselect the profile and the helix (again,holding downthe CTRL button), and then click Insert > Boss/Base > Sweep... You should immediately get a preview. Click OK. Your sweep is complete.


You'll have to add cuts to create a flat top and bottom. You can also add a 3D sketch to the end of the helix to create any features needed for attachment/termination.


I hope this helps. The help files are fantastic for this, although you have to look at "helix" and "sweep" separately.

Thanks for explaining me briefly, I tried what you said and it coming verry nicely. But my problem not ends here. Spring contains Tanjent continuation at the ends, Not able to model this,

Detailing the ends of the springs can be done but takes a bit of work.


Can you post a sketch to show exactly how it goes and I can try and explain how to model it.

I like to utilize the combo of two things. 1. create another helix with the required pitch. 2. create a cut, normal to the axis of the spring. This makes the end of the last coil of the spring hold tighter to the previous coil and is flat on its mating surface.

It looks like a torsion spring.


My approach would be to:

  1. <LI>Create a plane at the position where you want the straight segments</LI>
    <LI>Create a 3D sketch at the ends-sketch a straight line in the position you want constrained to be in the plane, then create a small spline that is constrained to be tangent to the straight line and the helix.</LI>


You may have to use "convert Entities"
Tool_Convert_Entities_Sketch.gif
on the Sketch toolbar, or click Tools > Sketch tools> convert Entities to "convert" the helix curve into the 3D sketch for this to work. If you do this, and put the straight ends all in a single 3D sketch, then you'll have 1 sketch to click for the sweep path.
